Butlr Technologies: Series A Funding

Overview

Butlr Technologies is the world’s first and only anonymous people sensing platform. Spun out of the MIT Media Lab in 2019, Butlr was named among the 100 Technology Pioneers of 2022 by the World Economic Forum. Butlr’s patented Heatic™ sensors and software platform are ideal for commercial real estate and assisted living because they provide data and insights on space occupancy, utilization and activity while being physically incapable of collecting any personal information.

Approach

ProsInComms was hired to announce Butlr’s $20M Series A round of funding. Since funding news alone no longer drives significant media coverage, the public relations strategy was built around developing larger industry stories.

The team developed several fresh angles to drive awareness and coverage for Butlr. These included:

  • Steering the conversation away from work-from-home versus hybrid and toward how to make the most use of all of the commercial real estate space that is sporadically occupied.
  • How Butlr is seizing the emerging opportunities in the $2T AgeTech market and making assisted living safer for residents.
  • The sensor renaissance and the future of smart, energy efficient buildings.
  • How new technologies provide insight on space occupancy without capturing personally identifiable information.

The team researched media, evaluating outlets based on reach, audience and domain authority.

Next we developed a highly targeted media list spanning outlets that covered commercial real estate, funding, facilities management, return to office, agetech, senior living, and local media near Butlr’s headquarters in Burlingame, CA.

Further, every pitch was customized based on in-depth research on the journalist and media outlet.

In preparation for the announcement, ProsInComms also conducted media training for Butlr’s spokespeople.
